Bouquet of Candy

rosebud
If you'd like to get a bit creative this Valentine's.....and go with something a bit traditional...and a bit not... here's the project for you.

This candy bouquet requires only two types of candy: chocolate kisses/hugs and any other "hard" candy that comes wrapped in green. No previous floral arranging experience required. And.. surprise your loved one this season with a gift from the heart that they can....devour!

Materials

Chocolate kisses or hugs
Hard candy - wrapped in green
Cellophane: red or pink and green
Floral wire
Floral tape: green
Container of your choosing
Styrofoam: to fit inside container
Ribbon: 3 yards
Clear tape
Glue
Scissors

Instructions

1. The number of "rose buds" that you will create is based upon the size of container you choose. A small 4-inch round container would require approximately 8 to 12 "rose buds". Cut 4-inch x 4-inch squares of your red/pink cellophane for each "rose bud". Cut some 4-inch x 4-inch and some 5-inch x 5-inch pieces of green cellophane.
2. Take two chocolate kisses and hold together with flat ends against each other. You have the option of gluing or holding these in place. Place the kisses in the center of one piece of your red/pink cellophane square. Bring all four corners of the square up to the middle, centering the kisses inside. Smoothing the cellophane around the kisses, pull the cellophane tight around them and "scrunch" it into a tail.
3. Cut a 12-inch piece of sturdy (lower in gauge) floral wire. Insert one end of the wire into the tail of the cellophane, sliding the wire up to meet the kisses. Begin wrapping, with floral tape, around the base of the kisses, securing the wire inside the cellophane. Floral tape, as pulled lightly becomes sticky. Continue wrapping around the wire and cellophane until you've reached one inch below the kisses.
4. Take one green-wrapped candy piece, and place one end against the floral wire, and continue wrapping with floral tape, incorporating the green candy piece as a "leaf". Add an additional leaf an additional inch further down the floral wire.
5. Wrap the remaining floral wire with floral tape. Repeat steps 2 through 5 for remaining "rose buds".
6. Cut styrofoam piece to fit inside container. Glue in place.
7. Use clear tape to create a grid pattern across the top of the container. This will create a guide to place your "roses" as you build your arrangement.
8. Cut a number of 6-inch pieces of a more flexible (higher gauge) floral wire. Take a piece of green cellophane and fold in half making corners meet. "Scrunch" the cellophane in the middle and wrap a piece of floral wire around to secure. When completed, it will take on a "bunny ear" look. Repeat with remaining pieces of green cellophane. These will be added to your arrangment to create greenery.
