Decorating with Gourds

Now that you've made the annual trip to the pumpkin patch and the apple holler, I'm sure you are trying to figure out what to do with all those wonderful fruits. Well, save some pumpkins of course for carving, some apples for pies....and then, some to decorate with.

Votives
Apples, gourds and mini pumpkins all make the perfect holders for a votive or tealight candle. Simply carve a small circle, the size of your candle, in the top of your fruit. Use a spoon, to remove any of the pulp or meat from the fruit. Pop your candle in the hole, and light. Place these in your windowsills for a nice evening glow, or on your Thanksgiving table at each placesetting.

Floral Arrangements

Instead of pulling out a glass vase for your fall mum arrangement, use a medium sized pumpkin! Carve an opening in the top of your pumpkin, and clean the pulp and seeds from the inside. Place a saturated piece of floral foam on the inside of your pumpkin, and begin arranging. If you are using silk or dried florals, no need to saturate the foam. To keep your live flowers fresh, do not pour water into the pumpkin shell, only saturate the floral foam.

Don't forget to lay out some of those pumpkins and gourds, just as they are, to give your home that autumn feel. Mix up the pumpkins, squash and other gourds in color as well as size. Happy Decorating!
