School Lunch Fun

As the kids head back to school, I think all parents are left with the undaunting task of creating lunches that the kids will eat, and will not just end up in the trash. So how about trying a bit of creativity to make those school lunches FUN!

1. Cookie cutters make sandwiches so much more appetizing, especially if your kids don't like the crust of the bread. Make your child's sandwich as usual, then simply press the cookie cutter into the sandwich. (Try these wonderful extra tall comfort grip cookie cutters from Wilton.)

Tunasaurus

Supplies:

  • 1 slice of bread
  • tuna salad
  • 1 Raisin
Spread one slice of bread with tuna salad. Use dinosaur cookie cutter to cut a dinosaur from the center of the bread. Press on a raisin to make the eye.

2. Fruits and vegetables will get eaten up quickly if they look inviting! Try cutting veggies with decorative edged knives which add fun flair to plain sliced veggies or fruit!

Apple Smiles

Supplies:

  • Apples
  • Miniature Marshmellows
  • Peanut Butter
Cut apple into wedges. Take two wedges and spread peanut butter on one side. Stick mini mashmellows on the peanut butter on one of the apples. Put the other apple wedge, on top (peanut butter sticking to the marshmellows!(apples are lips and marshmellows are teeth!)

Ants on a Log

Supplies:

  • Celery
  • Peanut Butter or Tahini (Sesame Seed Butter)
  • Raisins
Clean each rib of celery. Trim off the leafy ends. Fill the groove of the celery with peanut butter or tahini. Place raisins in a line on top of the spread. Voila!
