The connection between Easter and eggs seems to be one that's not so easily realized. We've heard that back in the 17th century the Pope blessed eggs, that we would remember Jesus Christ's resurrection from the dead when we ate them. How then.... did the rabbit get involved? Somehow he even makes it to the White House every year.

Regardless of how these traditions came about, the coloring of eggs has come to sybolize the coloring of life, the new colors of spring. And so, we head into our kitchens to initiate this rite of spring.

Natural Egg Dyes

Stick with nature and try dying your eggs this year with natures colors. So many things you'll find in your kitchen will bring about the rainbow we love to see Easter Sunday.

Place your eggs in a large saucepan, and add enough water to cover the eggs. Add 2 Tbsp of vinegar per quart of water, and one of the following dye ingredients.

Yellow Onion Skins for Tangerine
Strong Coffee Sable
Tumeric Dijon
Cumin Vanilla
Red Cabbage/Cranberries Grape
Blueberries Smoke
Orange Peel & Cinnamon Adobe
Yellow Apple Peel Champagne
Spinach Leaves Sage

Bring the water to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes. More time may be required for more eggs.
