Tis the season for sending flowers. It's Valentine's Day. This year, head to the kitchen and try a little bit of magic (actually just elementary science), and add some color to brighten up your bunch!
Supplies:
White flowers - Queen Anne's Lace and carnations work quite well. Directions: Place a few drops of food coloring (choose whatever color you want the flowers to become) into a tall glass container filled 3/4 full with water. Place your freshly cut flowers into the container. Wait up to 12 hours and observe. Depending upon the length of the stem, the white petals will turn the color of the dye added to the water. Experiment with different combinations of food coloring. For an interesting effect, split the stem of your flower into thirds and place each section in a container with different food coloring. To present these works of art to your loved one, simply bundle a dozen or more of your colored flowers and tie a beautiful ribbon around the stems.
