Bath Tea Bags

Relieve the stress from the holidays, and make your first New Year's resolution to...relax! Many of the herbs and spices found in your home (especially the kitchen) will become your new best friends. For years, we have been discovering that herbs have healing powers. Put those powers to work for you. Bath tea bags are easy and a perfect way to melt away stress, and allow you to relax and pamper yourself.

Materials Needed:

1. Material for making bags. These can be old socks, knee-high nylons, hand-sewn bags, cotton washcloths, pieces of muslin or an unused coffee filter.

2. Herbs, Spices and Teas.

Good choices for herbs and spices include lavender, peppermint leaves, sage, rosemary, thyme, chamomile, lemon balm, spearmint leaves, calendula, rosemary, comfrey, rose petals, lemon grass, and yarrow.

Other good ingredients include premade tea mixtures, epsom salts, oatmeal, and essential oils.

If you don't have alot of these types of ingredients around your home, bulk herbs are available from health food stores, by mail-order or online: TC Spices

Choose your herbs, spices, etc according to the desired effect. The Greenhouse Gallery Library is a great source for what herbs are suitable for everything from stress relief to insomnia.

Directions:

1. Mix equal parts of your chosen herbs. Add a couple drops of essential oil if desired. Try these Herbal Recipes to get just the right mix.

2. Create a "tea bag" of your choice.
- Muslin Bag (2 inches by 4 inches long)
- Dark color washcloth (some herbs may stain light colors)
- Old sock
- Knee-high nylon stocking
- Coffee Filter (fold in half and then fold sides inward and staple)
- Fancy organza bags (pictured above)

3. Place a large spoonful of oatmeal in the bottom of your bag - this will soften the skin.

4. Place a handful of the herbal mixture in your tea bag.

5. Tie tea bag closed with string, or a rubber band and ribbon. If you are using a coffee filter, fold top down and staple closed (This tends to look just like a real tea bag).

6. Tie your "tea bag" onto your water spout while the tub is filling, or just toss it into the bath like a regular tea bag.

7. Enjoy! Scrub yourself with the bag and squeeze it often to release the oils from the herbs.

Even though these bags are only good for one bath, you'll find that you'll never want to get out of the tub. Either throw the "tea bag" away after using it or put the spent herbs into the compost pile or use to mulch your plants.
