Recipes with Soul

February in the U.S. is the time to celebrate Black History Month. Suite101.com has organized a Black History Month event which will help you explore the many aspects of this important and thought-provoking celebration.

For us foodies this means - Soul Food, Southern Cuisine and African Recipes! Take time during this short month to dive into the wonderfully flavorful recipes that make up these cuisines. You’ll be glad you did!

I’ve round up some links to help you get started on your adventure.

The African-American Home Page houses a very large page filled with all sorts of Soul Food recipes. From guilt-free collard greens to Louisiana rice dressing, you’ll find some real of gems here. This page has a basic text layout but the recipes are submitted by real people so you know they’re tried and true!

Soul Food Cookbook Online is exactly as it’s name implies. Recipes are organized into categories. It isn’t huge, but they’re looking for people to submit more. Why not type in your family’s favorite and share with the online world?

Another online Soul Food cookbook can be found on AOL. This one is called the Soul Food Recipes Home Page.

The Global Gastronomer is a great reference for cuisines around the world. Africa is no exception. Start at their Africa page and explore recipes from Algeria to Zimbabwe!

SOAR (Searchable Online Archive of Recipes) is always fun to search. They have 90 recipes listed under Soul Food. Check it out!
