Have you ever dreamed of becoming a chef? Or have you just wondered what type of jobs are available in the food industry? Career changes into the world of food are a growing trend. There are many types of food careers out there and most people know the basic positions: chef, pastry chef, caterer, party planner and restaurant manager. Here in Los Angeles the personal chef is becoming the personal trainer for the new millennium. To look good, you've got to have one! These positions can pay well in salary as well as elbow rubbing. But depending on your employer's demeanor and taste this could be one fabulous experience or the job from hell. Another advantage is the ability to cook in a fabulous private kitchen without a profit margin to worry about! Tact is essential in jobs such as these, no one wants to see their food tastes published in the National Enquirer The sommelier is also a growing niche. Wine classes are filling quickly as enthusiastic wine tasters reach for a new and enjoyable career. But sommelier training is more than just sipping and swirling. Most training programs study geography, history, biology and chemistry (just to name a few!). Many restaurants are investing in the modern flavor of wine stewards. The new sommeliers are helpful and informative and do their best to be approachable. There's more than one thing to do with sommelier training. Other jobs include wine sales (wholesale or retail), wine buyer and winery representative. Wine consumption keeps rising in the U.S. and these jobs show real promise of a lasting future.
