Best times to begin anewFor many people Monday is "diet day", the day when they intend to begin a new and healthy eating plan that results in the loss of those stubborn 10, 25 or 50 pounds. Why Monday? Because it's the beginning of a fresh new week when everything seems possible. Why not Thursday or Saturday? The week is more than half over by then! Might as well wait until Monday. The best thing about Mondays is there are 52 of them every year. 52 chances to start anew! Are you thinking about embarking on a new adventure and wondering when's the best time to begin? Well, for goodness' sake, what are you waiting for? Start today. Start right now. Every day is a gift. Seize it! At least, that's my short answer. Sometimes, though, people want or need to wait until the time is right, until circumstances "feel" right. And there are certain times during the year and throughout our lives that prompt us to think about launching new endeavours and starting over: Your birthday. Everybody's got one. And what better or more personal day is there to start something new or to launch your dream? It's special, it's magical, and it's all yours. Put your plan into action on your birthday and see what happens by the next time it comes around. You might surprise yourself. New Year's Day. This is popular. How many fitness plans and diets begin on January 1? How many cigarettes are stubbed out for good? 365 days lie ahead, fresh, untainted, and full of potential. And ... if you don't get off to such a great start there's always the Chinese New Year a little later on. You can't lose! The beginning of the school year. This is good for a few reasons. Maybe you've finally decided to finish high school, or get a degree, or begin some other educational project. Maybe the kids are going back to school which in turn frees up some of your time to do something you've always wanted to do like start up a home business, volunteer at a recreation centre, paint, write, or sing. As children everywhere know there's just no better time to open to a fresh page than the day school starts. After the death of a loved one. The death of someone you love is a sad and wrenching experience and when it happens you immediately find yourself travelling down a different road whether you planned to or not. Death forces you to face the fact that life does not go on forever for anyone - including you. A death can cause you to look at your life in a new way, to question the things you value, to wonder whether you are heading in the right direction. When your time comes will you be ready? What will you regret not getting around to in life? What positive changes can you make to improve your life and the lives of others? From grief can come transformation.
