Folklore Table of Contents At the very outset let me say, emphatically, that it is not my intent to convince anyone of a particular theology or belief system for angels, creation or anything else in this series. The creation account, as recorded in Genesis, including the creation of angels, is accepted by some on faith, (Hebrews 11:1-3) which goes against reason. To others, the Genesis account of creation is, in itself, a myth on the level with other creation myths, or legends similar to the Epic of Gilgamesh. I begin here, because it seems logical to begin with angels at the beginning, and the beginning, to me, is with God. So feel free to read on and enjoy the upcoming articles. I respect your belief and your personhood, which are not challenged herein. All are welcome to this series regardless of creed or philosophical beliefs. Before time and an orderly, harmonious, systematic universe, there was chaos. Perhaps there was even less, or more, than chaos--nothingness. How does one describe nothingness? It can be neither described nor defined, for it is before language and thought. It is before anything, however one may define anything. Out of this nothingness, the omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient God created, in six days, ALL matter and living things, and saw that it was good. "In the beginning" (time) "God created the heaven" (space) "and the earth" (matter). "And the earth was without form and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God" (force) "moved" (motion) "upon the face of the waters"... (Gen.1:1-2). Why did God create? Well, He created for His pleasure. He saw fit to create. He delighted in it. He also created for His honor and glory. And, at some point God created the angels. The question then arises--were angels created before or after Adam and Eve? I do not know, and since God has chosen not to tell us, I can only surmise that this is to be a mystery.
