A Thanksgiving Psalm

Serve the Lord with gladness; come before his presence with singing. Know ye that the Lord he is God; it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise; be thankful unto him, and bless his name. For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations. (Psalm 100:1-5). This is one of my favorite psalms for Thanksgiving. It is a wonderful expression of praise to God--a doxology. There are many doxologies in the Bible which can be used for psalms of thanksgiving and for Thanksgiving. God has been so good to me this year. He has blessed me with spiritual and temporal blessings for which I am so thankful. I sometimes find that I have kept God's spiritual blessings in cold storage, waiting for a rainy day, whereas His temporal blessings are cashed in without delay. But, today IS a rainy day. All of the days have been rainy since September the 11th, and it has often been difficult for me to look beyond the clouds, knowing full well that beyone those clouds the sun is brightly shinning. It is necessary for me to goad myself to start using the blessings God has for me. What better time to start than right now, in time for Thanksgiving. So, this Thanksgiving I shout, "His mercy is everlasting." He has not, and will not run out of it. Like the flour in the barrel belonging to the widow that Elijah helped--it never runs out.
