A Tribute to My Father on Father's Day

© Virginia Marin

My father was strong in a quiet way. The strength of his presence was felt in his role as provider and protector of his family. We always knew he was there if we needed him. His character called forth trust. He may never be considered great in the eyes of the world but to those of us who knew him, he was the epitome of those qualities benefitting a real man--love, integrity, faithfulness, hard work and an abiding faith in God.

Daddy's Bible

I wonder how the Bible looked - shiny, crisp, untried. With truth unread and love unspread, the good news tucked inside.

Now it's smooth and thick with use. The golden edges bland. Faith and grace met daily there, right in daddy's hand.

As I hold it lovingly, and search its riches more; I wonder just how many times Daddy read that verse before.

Torn and faded, leather bound, its promises he claimed. Through the years of steadfast faith, I can barely read his name.

But in the Book of Life I know, his name is sharp and clear. For by God's promises he walked and boldly practiced here.

Now I'm still finding treasures, where he wrote and underscored. He classified and summarized, and through the pages pored.

Daddy's Bible gives me courage. A guidepost on my way. And by the grace of God I stand and share good news today.

In Loving Memory
