The author of these stories remains in question, although A. B. Phisike, Doctour is generally credited with the authorship. Fool as used to describe the men of Gotham connotes an archetypal figure whose foolishness, in the eyes and ears of others, actually contains much wisdom. A fool of this caliber is placed on a level with the shamen or may, in fact, be one. The Imaginary Kingdom of Prester John
