If you are a hidden piccoloist in a flute's world screaming to get out, now you can. You don't have to rely on Stars and Stripes anymore.
Oh, that Red's White and Blue March? It was a band work written about 25 or so years ago by none other than Red Skelton, which included a great piccolo duet at the beginning. Of course, my high school only had one piccolo, so I had to play the duet with a flute player. Just didn't have the same impact, but what a fun piece! For the next two weeks, my article will cover an interview with a man who has done much to promote the piccolo has a respectable solo instrument. Not only is he the piccoloist for the St. Louis Symphony, he's also my current teacher: Jan Gippo. Check back to see how Jan got started with piccolo, his current schedule, and his upcoming performance of the Lowell Liebermann Piccolo Concerto.
