Good news, Universal Orlando fans!
Located in the Lost Continent area of Islands of Adventure, Poseidon’s Fury takes you on an archeological dig deep inside the long-lost temple of Poseidon. A young archeologist leads you from chamber to chamber, not realizing that he is actually leading everyone into danger from a mystical creature trapped within the temple. It is a lot of fun for young and old alike. Then, the adventure takes a turn when you awaken an ancient demon that wants to use you and your family to take over the world. Oh no! It is up to the visitors to defeat the demon and prevent the evil from escaping. So who do you call? The great god Poseidon himself, of course! Before you are safely returned to the present and walk back out into the Florida sunshine, you are treated to pyrotechnics, explosions and filmed projections that appear on enormous water screens. You pass through a 420-foot water vortex which surrounds you with 17,500 gallons of swirling water. Yikes! The improvements finished this summer have given Poseidon’s Fury a new story line and new thrills. The upgrades include 350,000 gallons of water, 200 new flame effects and an exploding 25-foot-wide fireball. “We have really taken Poseidon’s Fury to the next level,” said Rick Costales, senior vice president of operations at the park. . “When we opened Islands of Adventure in 1999, Poseidon’s Fury was a great attraction. But we have re-styled it, writing a new storyline and adding new effects. It truly is all-new.” I’ll say. And so will you. “It is a multi-media spectacular,” Costales said. “We take guests through a crumbling Greek temple and put them right in the middle of an epic battle between gods and demons.” Islands of Adventure, the newest of the two theme parks at Universal Orlando, has not achieved the status of its brother, Universal Studios, or the Disney theme parks down the road in the Orlando area. But improvements like the one at Poseidon’s Fury will help raise the caliber of the park. Universal bills Islands of Adventure as the “next generation theme park” due to its use of the latest technological advances. And rumors continue to swirl in Central Florida about even more new attractions coming in the next few years. The park’s future looks bright. Go To Page: 1 2
