Students can take educational odyssey at Kennedy Space Center

Each school year, hundreds of school classes from across Florida and the Southeast take a field trip to Kennedy Space Center near Titusville. It’s a great adventure where the students learn about science and space and have fun at the same time. Now there’s a new tour program at Kennedy Space Center that’s just for them.

Delaware North Parks Services of Spaceport Inc., operator of the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, has introduced an all-new student bus tour and accompanying grade-specific guides.

These new programs support the KSC Visitor Complex’s vision statement: “To tell the NASA story and inspire all people to support the exploration of space,” and are part of Delaware North’s continuing commitment to education.

There’s a new star on the horizon – the International Space Station – and now student visitors participating in the KSC Visitor Complex’s Educational Field Trip program enjoy an exciting space station experience. While traveling to the International Space Station Center, students watch a new version of NASA’s education video, “Meet Me at the Station.”

This upbeat, zany production combines cartoon characters and NASA footage to create an informative video. At the International Space Station Center, students see actual components of the ISS, walk through mock-ups of ISS modules and witness a live briefing about the current status of the ISS.

This tour offers a direct bus to and from the International Space Station Center from 9:30 a.m. to noon and allows students and teachers an exclusive visit to this dynamic working facility and exhibition.

In addition to the Student KSC Tour, educational field trip participants may also enjoy all other aspects of a visit to Kennedy Space Center, including the IMAX space films, the KSC tour, the all-new “Mad Mission to Mars 2025” show and other exhibits.

One of four all-new Educator’s Activity Guides is provided to educators who choose to take their classes on a field trip to Kennedy Space Center. These unique guides, developed for grades kindergarten to grade 2, grade 3 to grade 5, grade 6 to grade 8 and grade 9 to grade 12, feature an integrated-learning curriculum and offer teachers preparation and/or review activities for their students to complement their KSC field trip.

These activities meet Florida Sunshine State standards, national standards and assist Florida students in preparing for the FCAT assessment tests. The free guides contain classroom-ready experiences that utilize low-cost materials and focus on cooperative learning, problem solving, hands-on/minds-on activities and guided research.

KSC Visitor Complex is open from 9 a.m. to about dusk every day except Dec. 25 and certain launch days. Regular admission is $25 for adults and $15 for children ages 3-11. The price per student on field trips is $12.
