House of Blues serves up live music in Orlando

There’s something for everyone in the Orlando area, which bills itself as the No. 1 tourist destination in the world.

That is especially true if you love live music. There are numerous music venues in Central Florida, ranging from small coffeehouses to bars, halls, hotels and open-air street festivals.

One of the best spots for catching name acts while you are in Orlando is the House of Blues at Downtown Disney West Side.

House of Blues brings in a never-ending mix of rock, soul, jazz, country, blues and gospel acts. The schedule during February 2001, for example, ranged from Pat Benatar to Bela Fleck and the Flecktones to O-Town to Kool and the Gang to Aaron Carter.

The two-story House of Blues opened in 1997. It seats 2,000 for concerts – a nice, cozy atmosphere that artists and fans both love. There is a House of Blues restaurant next door and a Company Store offers HOB-branded clothing and souvenirs.

Each Sunday, House of Blues hosts a gospel brunch at 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. It’s a “praise the Lord and pass the biscuits” type of a music-filled dining experience.

Before your next visit to Orlando, check the House of Blue’s web site at www.hob.com for upcoming schedule information. You can book tickets online before you leave home or they are usually are available at the door on the day of the show. The HOB web site also has a virtual tour of the venue and other information.
