Art aficionados: Don’t miss a new exhibition of French masterpieces at the Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach. The exhibit, “The Triumph of French Painting: Masterpieces from Ingres to Matisse,” runs from Jan. 6 to March 11, 2001.
The magnificent selection of works is drawn from the collections of the Baltimore Museum of Art and the Waters Art Gallery in Baltimore, Md. The exhibit features 30 artists and over 55 paintings from the 19th and early 20th centuries – including works by Ingres, Delacroix, Corot, Millet, Monet, Renoir, Cezanne, Van Gogh, Picasso and Matisse. Beginning with Neo-Classic and Romantic painting from the early part of the 19th Century, the exhibit explores Naturalism and Realism at mid-century, as well as the Impressionist, Post-Impressionist and Fauvist movements that herald the beginnings of 20th Century modernist work. Admission to the exhibit will be by timed ticket. Tickets are issued by time slots on the half-hour. General tickets are $12 for adults and $5 for youth aged 6-17. Deluxe tickets, which include an audio tour of the exhibit, are $16 for adults in advance and $17 at the door and $9 for youth 6-17 in advance and $10 at the door. Ticket prices include admission to the entire museum. The Norton is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. The museum is closed on Mondays from April through November and all major holidays.
