Fire Prevention

Well folks, it's that time of year again. Yup, you guessed it, Fire Prevention Week. It is during this week that fire personnel all over the country hit the streets, schools, daycare centers and many other locales in an attempt to spread the word. Spreading the word about fire prevention is of utmost importance to us, because a fire prevented is a life saved. One courageous person who in my book has dedicated many hours of his own time to spread the word of fire prevention in the local elementary school. This person is Captain Joe Funk of the Perry Fire Department. Captain Funk has in years past recruited my help amongst others to visit Perry Elementary School and spread the word of fire prevention to grades Kindergarten through third. Captain Funk puts on a thirty-minute presentation to each grade, which is second to none. I started working with Captain Funk back in 1996 and every year he seems to slip something interesting into his presentations that suprises us all. This article is about fire prevention, but I would like to spend the time to thank Captain Funk for his time and efforts. I hope that his efforts pay off and continue to save and protect the lives of the children in Perry. Thank You Captain Funk for your time and if you ever need help in your fire prevention crusade, you can call on the Perry Center Fire Department and myself. Oh, almost forgot......this years helpers to Captain Funk for fire prevention week from my department will be Firefighter Mark Milhollen and Firefighter/Secretary Angela Seagrave. I wish not to forget the helpers from Perry Fire Department, I thank you also. The following are interviews conducted on kids from Perry Elementary school...
