Ten Points of LeadershipTHE TEN POINTS OF LEADERSHIP Here are some points of leadership I came up with after an ass chewin' and several discussions with some very close friends of mine. Sometimes it takes a good rap upside the head to wake you up. I've also noticed that not everything you do is wrong, but you'll get blamed for it anyway. So stand tall, as a leader you have to carry a large load on those shoulders of yours. The Ten Points of Leadership 1. Be Tough - Set your standards higher than everyone else and encourage your personnel to meet them. Tell them what your standards and expectations are. Never settle for second best. 2. Get Out From Behind Your Desk - In the modern day world we call it "Management by Movement." Go see what's happening for yourself. Your people will see you are interested in their problems and welfare. 3. Find the Path to Success - Prioritize your activities, don't waste time on trivial matters. Become personally involved, don't leave things to chance. 4. Be Sensitive - Listen to the people in your department and what they have to say. Be perceptive and communicate with them often. Empathize with your people. Ask for input, seek ideas. Be innovative and creative. Communication is the key to running a successful department. 5. Don't Take Things for Granted - Keep on top of things. Don't slack off or others will too. Don't assume anything. It only makes an "ass" out of "u" and "me." If something needs to be fixed - fix it, don't procrastinate - do it and then monitor it. 6. Search out the Problems - "If you think there are no problems in your organization, you are living in your own little world." Search out the problems, find them. Foster an environment that encourages open, clear communications. If you shun problems they will get bigger. I've noticed a lack of communication causes big problems, problems sometimes fueled by rumors with no backing. 7. Don't Procrastinate - The problem only gets worst if you procrastinate. Therefore, address the problems when they arise. Don't put off hard decisions - make them. It won't really be easier tomorrow. Just do it. 8. Don't Alibi - Don't just take care of the problem, fix it. We know that people make mistakes. So don't be defensive when things go wrong. Nothing is worst than someone who has an alibi for everything that goes wrong.
