3. Preference will be given to students who are bona fide residents of Western Washington, particularly in or around Seattle. 4. Those applying for financial assistance as first-year students should have outstanding scholastic records at their secondary schools and combined S.A.T. scores of over 1200. 5. Recipients of assistance are not selected on the basis of scholarship alone, but on the basis of all factors which the Trustees of the Foundation consider relevant, without regard to race, sex, color, ethnic origin, religious belief, marital status, or physical handicap. 6. Application forms are available early in the fall and will be furnished to those who submit requests to Edmund F. Maxwell Foundation, P. O. Box 22537, Seattle, Washington, 98122-0537. Completed application forms must be mailed to the Foundation no later than April 30, 2000. 7. A scholarship for the 2000-2001 academic year will ordinarily be in the amount of $3,500 except in cases where need is less. Students may reapply to the Foundation each year they meet eligibility requirements. 8. Following completion, the original application and the required additional information must be sent to the Edmund F. Maxwell Foundation and a copy of the application form must be sent directly to the admission director of the institution the student wishes to attend, along with the attached Financial Aid Worksheet. 9. Applications must be mailed by the institution to the Foundation no later than April 30, 2000. Students must also meet the differing deadlines of each institution to which they apply. 10. Scholarship funds will be paid to the educational institution which the student will be attending. 11. The recipient is expected to maintain academic and personal performance consistent with the original award criteria. 12. The program is designed to assist outstanding students with a portion of their cost of education. Other financial aid may be applied for and received. 13. The application requires the following additional information: a. The applicant's essay of not more than 500 words on the following topic: Describe an event or person you feel has changed or significantly impacted your life and explain the impact that event or person has had on you. b. An official, certified high school transcript. c. A history of applicant's employment. d. Certification of SAT/ACT scores, if not included on high school transcript. e. Financial Aid Worksheet (to be completed by each College or University).
