The NHHEAF Network is three separate, private nonprofit organizations working together to simplify the student loan process.

New Hampshire Higher Education Assistance Foundation (NHHEAF) Established in 1962 by the banking community to guaranty loans to students in 1965, designated to administer the Guaranteed Student Loan Program, now referred to as the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP). Launched the first of its kind, alternative loan program for parents and students (ALPS) in 1983 to provide funding for families not eligible for federal aid, or to supplement existing aid. Simplifies origination and disbursement functions for schools and lenders through automation of application processing and electronic funds transfer (EFT). Provides free information through the Resource Center about programs of higher education, the financial aid process and sources of funding, and promotes community outreach efforts. Maintains net cumulative rate of below 4%. Guaranteed over $144 million in FFELP loans for fiscal year 1997. New Hampshire Higher Education Loan Corporation (NHHELCO) Designated by the State of New Hampshire in June of 1993 to be a lender and holder exclusively for student loans under FFEL. Became lender for the Guaranteed Access Program (Lender of Last Resort) in the fall of 1993. Since 1994, number one student loan lender in New Hampshire. Originated more than $120 million in FFELP loans for fiscal year 1997. Offers programs that save Stafford borrowers money while repaying their loans. (Click here for savings program descriptions.) Further streamlines application process for PLUS (parent) loans through a pre-approval service, Easy+. 49 lenders refer their customers to NHHELCO for funding and related services. Granite State Management & Resources (GSM&R) Established in 1986 to assume administration and loan servicing of the ALPS Program and to provide certain administrative support functions for NHHEAF and since 1993 for NHHELCO. Began servicing of loans for NHHELCO in the fall of 1993. Now servicing a loan portfolio of nearly $350 million.
