This week we are looking more into Nebraska's resources for college aid. The NSLP (Nebraska Student Loan Program) is the most fundamental resource for Nebraska resources I could locate anywhere! They took a very honest and through look on planning and paying for college, and below is just some of the information they have to offer on their website, located at http://www.nslp.com/. This is a very well done resource in which you'll find:

Planning, Searching and Saving for College Online Guide to Financial Aid Student Loan Entrance and Exit Counseling Everything You Need to Know About Repaying Your Student Loan Default Prevention Glossary of Terms And more!

The NSLP has a loan inquiry system for all students within the US that allows not only students to check on their own loans, but borrowers as well. The NSLP also takes a look at what it takes to save for college, which is illustrated in the captions below:

"The first step is finding out about how much college will cost. Use the Educational Planning Center's College Funding Planner. This planner will help you:

Estimate the cost of college Get an idea of what types and how much financial assistance you may expect Determine the amount you should set aside each month Save, Save, Save There are many ways to save for college. Some offer you higher returns on your initial investment and some put your investment at greater risk. These options include:

Savings accounts Savings bonds Certificates of deposit (CD) Mutual funds Talk to a financial planner or your bank to determine a savings plan that works for your budget and preferences. Let the Kids Pitch In

While it may not have been pleasant at the time, many adults value the contributions they made to funding all or part of their college education. There are several ways to do this:

Start teaching your children the value of saving early. Many banks offer youth savings accounts. Even with just a few dollars every week or month, children can watch their accounts grow. Encourage your teen to get a part-time job during the school year, or for the summer. All or part of the wages can be put into a savings vehicle for college. Set aside all or part of allowances and gift money to help pay for college. The money saved can go a long way in paying for tuition, room and board, books or student activities on campus."
