This week we will be reviewing North Carolina programs for student aid, particually those found at CFI (College Foundation Inc., please visit them at: http://www.cfi-nc.org/frames.htm).

Freshmen, seniors, graduate students - people who have never applied for loans and people who have borrowed for several years in a row - college is divided into many different stages. But no matter what stage of college you're in, now you can find out the things you need to know about College Foundation and the financial aid programs CFI provides; CFI's services for college students; and how to save money when you're borrowing for college. You may want to review general financial aid terminology or repayment terminology; check on the status of a current loan application through Online Loan Info; or, review some of the frequently asked questions from college students or borrowers in repayment. And, if you're interested in reading more material relevant to your stage of college, you may want to check the sections that CFI prepared for students who: (A) - are considering borrowing (for the first time); (B) - have borrowed before and may borrow again; or (C) - are close to graduation (and have a college loan). Don't forget to let us know if you have questions or need to request forms from CFI; and before you leave, check out the other great resources they've provided.

Entrance And Exit Loan Counseling
CFI sends representatives from the Program Information staff to schools to assist with entrance and exit loan counseling sessions. Schools are required to provide entrance counseling to first-time student borrowers before they release the loan proceeds to the student. During the entrance counseling session topics such as debt management and general loan terms are discussed. Exit counseling is another loan counseling session - similar to entrance counseling - offered to students just before they graduate or leave school. The purpose of exit counseling is to assure that students understand in some detail the terms of their loan, interest rates, default, special repayment options, and other related issues. In addition to personally assisting schools with entrance and exit counseling, CFI provides printed materials and videos for schools to use during these sessions. Many of the same topics discussed during entrance and exit counseling are described here, on this web site.
