Today I would like to discuss with you specifically a federal government program called EASI (Easy Access for Students and Institutions). Project EASI is one designed, run and administrated by the Federal Government and is the first-world class-comprehensive student financial aid delivery system that uses state-of-the-art informational technology.
Project EASI is all about changing the ways in which many current financial aid programs are run, and is setting a worldwide example for that change. This project was designed to create a single point of contact for students and institutions alike, in an effort to reduce complexity, cost, and redundancy of many of the existing processes. EASI streamlines the application process and is able to carry out several tasks at once, whereas before, many of these tasks took many different forms and applications in order to complete the process. This project aspires to be a one-stop source in the future for all postsecondary educational needs, including choosing schools, choosing alternatives, and financing options. They have brought together a score of government, business and student educational leaders to implement the process and get things on the right track. As I'm sure you are aware, Vice President Al Gore has outlined a plan that is designed to provide more access to federal services and benefits. Access America, the title of the plan, was designed to fit the need that is so abundant today and aid Federal agencies in working together in the hopes of developing electronic access tools to better deliver benefits, information and service. Using the Access America plan, the hope is to bundle the needs of particular groups of people based on current statistics. They will be broken down into groups from students to seniors, and thusly have their needs addressed more expediently and correctly than they have been in the current system. The U.S. Department of Education has become a link in this chain, compiling information and services under one program, one plan, and one system. This better serves the needs of students and parents alike when they need information on the Department's educational resources, whether it is advice, aid programs or the like. Access America is fast becoming a part of the information age, which it was designed to accommodate. The ideal for this program is to give students electronic, web-based access for all government services, not just a few. The modernization of government tools is essential to the development of the EASI program and important to our educational future. In the days to come, the testing process for the modernization will be as follows: Go To Page: 1 2
