LORD OF THE RINGS: THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING (December 19) Starring Ian McKellan and Elijah Wood, Directed by Peter Jackson

The first in a trilogy of one of the most beloved series of novels of all time looks realistic, graceful, and captivating… from the previews. The three books, shot all together and to be released every December for the next three years is being kept very hush hush. I’m sure almost every single one of you has already read the books and feels the same way I do: curious and repulsed. If the filmmakers and cast pull this off we’ve got a real treat on our hands. But how can that be possible?

THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS (December 21) Starring Gene Hackman, Owen Wilson, Ben Stiller, Gwyneth Paltrow, Directed by Wes Anderson

Wes Anderson is the genius behind RUSHMORE. Let me guess, you haven’t seen it. Or worse, you didn’t like it. If you didn’t like it, I’d guess you shouldn’t bother with this one either. It’s the story of the Tenenbaums, a family of geniuses who fall under disgrace and drift apart. Twenty-two years later their father is on the verge of death and they are all brought back together.

I’m sorry that I can’t do more than this. I would love to write a review about a fabulous movie you could go and see right now. But it’s no use. The only recommendation I can make at the moment is for HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH. If it’s playing anywhere near you make the effort and check it out. I’ll take a stab at reviewing that one next week.
