Ocean’s Eleven is a clever remake of the 1960 Rat Pack film about an ex-con who assembles an eleven man team to attempt the impossible. Their goal is to rob all three major Las Vegas casinos without getting caught, of course.

Danny Ocean (played by George Clooney) is a charming thief with a broken heart. Fresh out of the slammer he returns to the only life he knows, working as a gambling thief. Ocean sets out to meet up with his old working buddy Rudy (Brad Pitt) an experienced card shark, who questions Ocean’s motives for planning to rob the three biggest casinos owned by Terry Benedict (Andy Garcia).

Clooney at his best plays a very smooth thief in a scene with Pitt and what seemed like all the young actors from the WB channel. Rudy (Pitt) is in the business of teaching young teenage rich brats how to place a bet and win a game of cards. When Ocean walks in on their lesson Rudy plays it cool like he doesn’t know who Ocean is and working as a team they scam the rich kids from the WB out of a lot of dough.

Together Ocean and Rudy recruit a young pickpocket from Chicago (Matt Damon), a demolition prowess (Don Cheadle) and a slew of other quirky characters that range from the old retired Florida grandpa type to the amazing acrobatics of a small oriental man.

Once a crew is assembled they get down to specifics studying the layout of all three casinos and building their own set in an empty warehouse to practice their heist inside, with all eleven specializing in what they do best. As the time approaches for the group’s big hit to split $150 million eleven ways Rudy figures out Ocean’s motive. Terry Benedict, the owner of all three casino’s is dating Ocean’s ex-wife Tess (Julia Roberts). Tess doesn’t want anything to do with Ocean even when he oozes with charm. As a result, Rudy kicks Ocean off his own eleven man squad.

Not one to be left out of a heist he masterminded Ocean finagles his way into the picture on game day. The ending plays like a who done it and how did it happen as Ocean and Tess and Benedict butt-heads several times all suspicious of the others motives.

Don Cheadle is the groups stand out with a killer British accent he uses to portray his demolition man, Roberts glows and Pitt, Damon and Clooney have their moments of charm while they all work together at accomplishing the ultimate big score.
