Last week I talked about how this year there is a lot of anticipation in big budget movies during the wintertime. I would like to spotlight Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring premiering in less than 2 days. I’ll most likely be posting my review at www.cinemagap.com.
Meanwhile, I’ve been checking out the internet and my movie news in what seems like the most anticipated film of the year. Rotten tomatoes, one of the best sites to check critic’s reviews (all rolled into one), seemed to put Lord of the Rings as the cream of the crop with 23 fresh reviews adding up to 100%. 1 has been added in the past few days, sadly, it was a rotten review calling the film a “sugarless cookie of a film that over bakes the pan.” It hasn’t hurt Lord of the Rings which is still high with 96% fresh reviews. And it doesn’t stop there. The internet is crowded with buyers and sellers quickly raking up fast food promotions at Burger King, buying movie guides and book related materials at Amazon and figures and toys from Toys R’ Us. Hollywood.com (www.hollywood.com) is full of behind the scenes info on FOTR from “The Making of Lord of the Rings,” 3 interviews on the film, and an interactive game to tour middle earth. Last week TV Guide devoted four different covers featuring all of the characters against a beautiful picturesque backdrop while Entertainment Weekly placed the cast on their cover for fall movie coverage. There is also a site dedicated to the LOTR board game (http://flyingmoose.org/tolksarc/boardgam... Feeling a little lost in all of the Tolkien frenzy? No problem. Amazon.com is offering a variety of LOTR books specially updated for the upcoming film trilogies. One I recommend is the beautifully illustrated 1991 hardcover edition that I received as a gift from my parents. World famous fantasy artist Alan Lee created 50 paintings specifically for the 100th celebration. Amazon allows you to check out some sample pages from the book along with the front and back cover. You can find it here: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0... . Even LOTR’s own Ian Holm who plays Bilbo Baggins from the Fellowship of the Ring is getting in on the merchandising. Amazon also offers the Lord of the Rings BBC dramatization with Holm narrating. You can also buy the previous animated versions of the Lord of the Rings (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B... The Hobbit (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B... and The Return of the King (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B... Go To Page: 1 2
