Uniqueness of Philippine Domain Names
Filipinos are very creative when it comes to domain names. There’s so much domain names out there in cyberspace, but the ones that stand out from the crowd are the unique Filipino-related domain names. From the ultimately creative domain names to the hilariously funny ones, one can’t stop but wonder “HOW IN THE WORLD DID THEY COME UP WITH THAT?!!?” Simple answer: we Filipinos are creative thinkers! People can easily remember domain names that stand out from common domain names. Who would’ve thought of MaPalad.org as a website for a group of Palm OS users and developers? I think it’s pretty neat the way they thought of this domain. Palad is the tagalog word for palm (yes, like the palm of your hand). Mapalad is the Tagalog word for lucky or blessed with great things in life. How about Maganda.org? The webmaster of this site is a twenty-something Filipina who likes to blog. I won’t go into blogging, because that’s another story. I’m sure a lot of you reading my article know what maganda means. If not, ask any of your Filipino friends. Oh, okay, I won’t keep you in suspense anymore, it is the Tagalog word for beautiful or pretty. I like this weblog very much, because she encourages her readers to send in short messages as to how and why they feel beautiful. It’s a very positive website, I should say. Of course, if there’s maganda.org, there’s GWAPO.com You guessed it right, gwapo means handsome. For the cocky Filipino guys out there, here’s a site for you. Why? Imagine using yourname@gwapo.com ‘Nuff said! For the adventurous AND cocky Filipino guys, the website PogiPoints.com comes to mind. Pogi is Tagalog slang for handsome. This is one of those websites that I can’t possibly explain in English, but if you have a friend from the Philippines, ask them to explain what pogi points mean. It’s hard to put it into writing. Now there’s this website called phil-at-home.com If you pronounce it right, it would sound like “Feel At Home”. We Filipinos like to say this phrase whenever someone visits our house. It’s like saying to your guests “Be comfortable and please feel at home”. About the website, it is a travel and leisure guide to the Philippines. And before I cut my article short, I'd like to talk about Chismis.ph Chismis means gossip (ahem!) and who would've thought about making a site specifically catering to gossip-seekers? Ahhhhh, only in the Philippines. Go To Page: 1 2
