How do you reverse a practice that was encouraged for four centuries? Slowly and one person at a time. Perhaps, being in a foreign land offers the best opportunity to feel united. Here is the chance for boundaries to be erased and we can simply share one common heritage. Next time a fellow Filipino approaches us, give him/her the time of day and try not to ask from what part of the Philippines they hail from. After all, does it really matter? All right, if you are really dying to find out, ask only for curiosity's sake with genuine interest. Refrain from stereotyping based on provincial background.
