Nowadays, it is getting harder and harder to obtain any kind of a visa for entry to the United States from the Philippines. Thus, for those who are lucky enough to procure one, it almost seems that they are fated to be in the US by divine intervention. And for those who have been here or are second generation Filipino American, it almost is an obligation to show something for it. It would be a shame to waste opportunity granted.

However, bear in mind that this is the country that expanded on Manifest Destiny. One may believe he or she is destined for greatness or wealth, but one has to act on it. Wishful thinking won't cut it. Although, envisioning is the first step to accomplishing one's goal, action gets the ball rolling. After all, this is the country where the slogan, "Just Do It" originated from.

One thing that is noticeable here in America, an individual must be a big believer in following rules. The American Society functions well because there are laws that keep people in check. And understandably for some Filipinos, we always like to take the short cut, but knowledge of the law in the US is critical. There are certain things to keep in mind. These are just friendly suggestions and what also will hopefully serve as helpful reminders.

Know An Individual's Rights. There is a reason why grade school children will not be promoted to High School unless they know their Constitution. The Constitution is the main foundation of the American Government and bylaws. If anything, at least know the Bill of Rights, which basically enumerates a human being's basic rights.

Know The Importance of Credit History. In the US, it is encouraged to borrow money against a loan and then three major credit bureaus watch closely how well the debts are repaid. Hence, one starts to build their credit history. Two of these major credit bureaus that bear weight on the credit report are Trans Union and Experian. They take into consideration, not only the timeliness of one's payment, but also the number of revolving accounts open and the overall debt to income ratio. Believe it or not an individual gets points, and these points will determine if you will be approved for the major purchases such as a car or home.

Know How Insurances Work. In the Philippines, probably the insurance that people are most familiar with is the life insurance. In the US, one of the biggest industries that generate money is the insurance industry. There are thousands of insurance companies. The most important ones though are the Auto Insurance, the Life Insurance and the Homeowner's Insurance if a homeowner.
