A Lesson on Lessons

A friend recently asked me if I knew where he could take his child for skating lessons. I thought this was a good question which deserved a mention on this forum. I think that the need for lessons all depends on what the level of skill is, and how far the skater wants to go. Most rinks can provide you with names of coaches that train other skaters at the rink. Lessons can be a little expensive, especially if rink time is desired during peak periods. I would also look in the Yellow Pages for some ideas, and also search the internet. Word of mouth would also work well in this case. Find out who skates at your local rink and ask them if they are happy with their trainer. This should be an easy task to complete, and it would also enable you to meet new people who are also interested in the sport. I think lessons are important, especially since knowing the safety aspects are critical. Develop a good foundation in the beginning, and your youngster will enjoy a lifetime of skating enjoyment.
