ISU Grand Prix: NHK Trophy

The final qualifying event in the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating was recently held in Asahikawa, Japan. Aired on ABC and hosted by Terry Gannon and Peter Carruthers, this event was the last opportunity for the skaters to qualify for the finals to be held in Tokyo, Japan.
For the Men's free program, Chengjiang Li of CHN skated first to "Blue Man" by Blue Man Orchestra. Next, Evgeny Plushenko of RUS skated to "Once upon a Time in America", followed by Ben Ferreira of CAN to "Legs Diamond", the Broadway musical. Lastly, Ilia Klimkin of RUS skated to "Prelude de l'Apres-Midi d'une Faun". The results were: 1, Evgeny Plushenko (RUS), 2, Ilia Klimkin (RUS), and 3, Chengjiang Li (CHN).
After competing in six events, the Men's Grand Prix standings and the point values for the final qualifiers are: Alexei Yagudin (RUS), 24, Evgeny Plushenko (RUS), 24, Timothy Goebel (USA), 21, Ilia Klimkin (RUS), 18, Todd Eldredge (USA), 16, and Matt Savoie (USA), 14.
For the Ladies free program, Jenny Kirk of USA skated first to Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker." Next, Fumie Suguri of JPN skated to "Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity", followed by Irina Slutskaya of RUS to "Don Quixote" by Minkus, Angela Nikodinov of USA to "Sleeping Beauty" by Tchaikovsky, Tatyana Malinina of UZB to "Violin Concerto" by Vieuxdemys, and lastly Maria Butyrskaya of RUS to "Seventeen Moments in Spring". The results were: 1, Irina Slutskaya (RUS), 2, Maria Butyrskaya (RUS), 3, Tatyana Malinina (UZB), 4, Angela Nikodinov (USA), 5, Fumie Suguri (JPN), and Jenny Kirk (USA).
After competing in six events, the Ladies Grand Prix standings and the point values for the final qualifiers are: Maria Butyrskaya (RUS), 24, Irina Slutskaya (RUS), 24, Michelle Kwan (USA), 21, Elena Sokolova (RUS), 16, Sarah Hughes (USA), 16, and Tatyana Malinina (UZB), 14.
The ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating final event will be held in Tokyo, Japan, and will begin airing on ABC starting on Sunday, Feb. 18, from 1 to 3 p.m. EST.
