ISU Nations Cup from Gelsenkirchen, Germany.

On Sunday, Dec. 3, ABC aired coverage of the ISU Nations Cup from Gelsenkirchen, Germany. This event was hosted by Terry Gannon, Peter Carruthers, and Susie Wynne. The Men's and Ladies free skate was 4 1/2 and 4 minutes long, respectively. Judging for the Men were: USA, RUS, JPN, GER, CHN, SVK, CAN, UZB, and FRA. First to skate was Alexander Abt from RUS, to the music soundtrack of Gladiator. Next was Chengjiang Li of CHN to Blue Moon, followed by Timothy Goebel of USA to Henry V, Evgeny Plushenko of RUS to selections from Once Upon a Time in America, and finally Ivan Dinev of BUL to music of a Greek theme. The results were: 1: Evgeny Plushenko, 2: Timothy Goebel, 3: Ghengjiang Li, 4: Alexander Abt, and 5: Ivan Dinev. Judging for the Ladies were: RUS, CAN, JPN, UKR, POL, CHN, GER, UZB, and FRA. First to skate was Maria Butyrskaya from RUS, to the music of Seventeen Moments in Spring. Next was Vanessa Gusmeroli of FRA to music from the soundtrack of Joan of Ark, followed by Tatyana Malinina of UZB to Sweet Sorrow, Sarah Hughes of USA to music from the ballet Don Quixote, and finally Sasha Cohen of USA to Dark Eyes. The results were: 1: Maria Butyrskaya, 2: Sarah Hughes, 3: Tatyana Malinina, 4: Vanessa Gusmeroli, and 5: Sasha Cohen. The next competition in the Grand Prix (third event) is the Russian Cup held in St. Petersburg, Russia, and I will be watching this event to report back on the final standings.
