Spring 2005 Cross Training Part II

are my toned legs!" No doubt. Bowman also combines running light errands with her bicycle or multi-tasking while on the road. This is why many women riders have both a dedicated road bicycle for group rides and a touring bicycle with a rack for panniers. Trips to the post office, bank and grocery store are no big deal. This works very well and may become even more common place on the road as gas prices continue to hit record highs. Bowman says. "I want to inspire women to get out there and get healthy." She cross trains by lifting free weights, does yoga and core training for a stronger abdomen. "Bicycling is great for the legs but doesn't do much for the upper body so doing exercises apart from cycling for those areas is important." Rosie Garlapow is captain of Terry's Pro Racing Team. In addition to all of her team events and races, Rosie is also a law student. Garlapow got introduced to the sport of cycling by way of using as a cross training activity to improve her skiing. Here's what she has to say to our questions:

In fact, right now, one of our racers, Julie, is racing in France! Our complete schedule is at www.terrybicycles.com.

Suite 101: What is your age and what got you interested in cycling?

Garlapow: I am 28 years old and I got involved in cycling through skiing. I wanted to be a competitive mogul skier in college and one of the ski coaches told me I should get a mountain bike to train on in the off season- the summer, for skiing. So, I got a mtn bike and soon realized that there are so few places to mtn bike and you always end up having to drive to ride. So, I bought a used road bike from a friend to ride as training for mtn biking. Soon, I realized I was a much better cyclist than skier so i ditched skiing and started racing bikes. After several collisions with trees, I realized road racing was much more my cup of tea. Suite 101:
