Tips from Women Athletes: I met some real "role models" of the sport of cycling who can give some very good pointers appropriate for all women athletes. I caught up with Bonny Bowman who is a member and ride captain for the Jersey Shore Touring Society. Bowman leads the B Class riders of the group, which is a respectable 15-17 mph pace. Actually she joined this cycling club only two years ago after a serious bicycle accident which she thinks was caused by a blown tire. After joining JSTS Bowman relates, "It made me a much better rider. I wasn't going to let the accident stop me from pursuing my passion." Now, not only does Bowman ride but she leads as well. She's planning a bicycle tour in VA with four other women cyclists. She recommends stretching before and after a ride, taking plenty of water along and a cell phone.
