Spring 2005 Cross Training Part II

MEALS ON WHEELS!

Vacuum Sealing: If you really get into touring with your bicycle, you'll need a bit more than an energy bar. After several hours on the road, you'll want to stop, set up camp and even take a nap. You'll also want to enjoy some easy to prepare meals which with today's technology is quite easy to do. First you'll need a FoodSaver by Tilia. The units we tested, the Pro III and V845 (which is more than adequate for most homes), allowed us to pre-package full meals for the road in air-tight, boilable pouches. My Trek, insulated trunk keeps foods cool for hours and you can even make disposable freezer packs with the FoodSaver. After the food is gone, simply discard and move on. The FoodSaver allows you to prepackage gourmet meals which are much fresher and more wholesome than many of the "camping meals" offered at some outfitters. You can make a whole variety of compact meals and snacks to go which will reflect your own personal tastes and nutritional needs. The FoodSaver makes it easy and will even free up your kitchen time, eliminate dry, freezer-burned food and waste. For more information, visit Tilia's FoodSaver website at http://www.foodsaver.com

This alcohol burning stove has two wind protectors which allow you to cook under a variety of conditions. Windy and cold weather are not a problem and you can even use a gas burner. Everything stacks together for easy storage and the stove is really easy to use as well as durable. The pan handle is removable and fits all of the non-stick pans. Using your HighGear Adventure Plus Survival Module, you can store and keep matches dry in all types of weather or even seal your camping supplies with the FoodSaver. Simply light the Trangia Stove, add water to the stackable saucepan, immerse your FoodSaver meal package in the hot water for a few minutes and slit to open the pouch. Viola! You can eat directly from the pouch, skipping carrying plates along and discard everything when you're done. Or you can bring along some coated paper plates and
