Spring 2005 Cross Training-
PART II
We all know we need to exercise more but how often do you hear the old excuse, "I just don't have the time"? There is a way that you can cross train with your bicycle AND get some errands done at the same time, (not to mention lessen air pollution). Use your bicycle to do local trips to the bank, library, store or market. To convert your bicycle into one that allows you to carry items with ease during your ride, you may wish to purchase a pair of panniers. You will need to have a rack installed on the back of your bicycle but this is no big deal and you will get a lot more practical use from your bicycle. If you're going to do 20 miles a day, why not stop off at the post office, bank, market, etc. while you are out? The best panniers I've found (and I've looked at scores of them), are by far Angletech's TechWind aerodynamic panniers. These are not the sloppy sausages you see on many touring bicycles. These have a definite form and shape. They also come with stuff sacks to separate food, extra clothes, etc. that you will need. Best of all they come in vivid colors which are a great safety feature. What you'll really like is how they cut through the wind and actually give you a tailwind boost. This is because the panniers break up the area of turbulence created as you cruise down the road. I've had mine fully loaded and have been able to make hills with relative ease. Check them out at: http://www.angletechcycles.com/accessori... RIDE SAFE! The Best Bicycle Mirrors: CityTech and SprinTech are lightweight, sleek and stylish mirrors from ProNet. Very well made, they allow you to clearly see quite some distance behind you. Non-invasive, they don't get in the way and are easy to adjust. Contact ProNet to order at 360-792-1113 or email MikeKProNet@msm.com The Best Bicycle Horn: Megalert Megahorn from Industrial Bicycles is a loud 105 decible horn which is used in factories and on police bicycles. It will definitely get the motorist's attention and picks up where the dingy-bell leaves off. Industrial Bicycles has been around since 1935 and is located in Dearborn Michigan. To order the Megalert call 313-561-2560 or by email at info@jacksbikes.com. You can also visit http://www.industrialbicycles.com and look under "safety" equipment / accessories.
