The Best Ice Performances of the Yearquite deceiving. She said that very few of the skaters even landed their jumps. What was done is that these missed sequences were "reshot". The audience was encouraged to stay very late so that the missed jumps could be edited over with a audience clapping in the background. She and her family were understandably disappointed. Not only did many of the skaters not land their jumps during the performance, the audience was put upon further by having to sit until they "got it right". I believe the show started at 7 pm but it was closer to midnight by the time my source and her family got out. That's a long evening for a family with young children. Making promises you know you can't keep just to sell higher priced seats and holding the audience "captive" past the performance so that you can edit in corrections to make the skaters look better is a bit more than phoney. In my opinion, shows like these are just not worth the money, no matter who is performing. So there you have it. Ice shows should be uplifting and enjoyable. They should also have you walk away with a sense of contentment and perhaps the desire to get onto the ice yourself. In other words, they should inspire. The Ice Theatre of New York did just that as a haute couture art form. Holiday Spectacular on Ice was unpretentious and delivered what most people would expect of a traditional ice-variety show with a few more surprises than usual. I highly recommend the productions of both these ensembles. Be sure to visit our Winter Sports Special!
