Suite 101's Figure Skating Editor Ice Skates on CBS Early Show and in More Magazine

These past few months have been very busy for this editor! I was interviewed for a story in More Magazine by writer, Bari Nan Cohen. More is a lifestyle magazine targeted at women over 40 and was one of the first New York glossies to show women as they really are without excessive computer enhancement and airbrushing.

One of their landmark issues in fact showed Jamie Lee Curtis' soft, untoned middle and somewhat fluffy thighs. Might not have been picture perfect but it was real. For that we truly applaud them. Also More as a rule, does not use fashion models under 40. They offer model searches and have as stunning women participating as can be seen in any other high fashion glossy.

So you might ask, what drew them to me since as you can all see, I get carded all the time! Not exactly. I was chosen because I learned to ice skate as an adult, something that is somewhat incredulous in this sedentary society. They were also looking for someone who taught skating which I do. More for fun than anything else, I teach "Ice Skating on Wheels" for Monmouth County Park System in Colts Neck, NJ. In this class I get all sorts of students from beginner to advanced inline skaters. I'm usually the oldest adult on the rink, however! That doesn't bother me. What they learn is a sense of musicality, style and poise. Giving them that is my way of sharing what this fantastic sport has done for me.

After Cohen got the story, it was on to the fashion photo shoot at Westchester Skating Academy.

My dress was a hand decorated green velvet and slinky material with gold etched roses on the bodice. My skates were Graf Dance Boots with Graf's new Dance Blades. My hair and make-up were done by make-up artist, Jane Choi from Frank Arends agency. Lots of fresh fruit, croissants, and sandwiches were on the set for us to enjoy. We even wrapped early.

Later on, CBS News contacted me to video tape the segment which aired November 29th on the Early Show. Shot at Chelsea Piers in New York City, I laced up my skates, warmed up and skated with Rene Syler, co-anchor of the Early Show. We had a great time with the shoot and interview. Classicstoday.com provided the background music for our skating. The camera crew especially liked the guitar arrangement for the Beatles' "Penny Lane"! Afterwards, I met for lunch with the Ice Theatre of New York whose office is also at the Piers. We got in some sight-seeing. The Statue of Liberty, watching the yachts glide by on the Hudson and an endless stream of bicycles, inline skates and skateboards on the famous city bicycle trail.
