A celebration of sharing

© Bob Ewing

The first snow has fallen. It's not much, just a thin covering, but the temperatures that accompany the snow, convince me that winter is here. As November ends and we move deeper into the time of the darkening, at least here in the North, it is heartening to know that soon the Festive Season will be upon us.

It is a Season of giving and sharing, and as food plays a central role in most celebrations, why not think about giving in a way that those who struggle, all year round to put enough food on the table,, and all too often cannot succeed, are ensured that they ,and their families, will eat well and be able to join in the Celebration. There are a number of ways to give. You can give a gift of food every day by simply clicking your mouse, or give a wreath to someone on your shopping list, and give a gift of food to someone who may otherwise go without.

Or you could make a donation in the name of a friend or family member and spread the sharing beyond your immediate circle. If each of us takes the time to give one gift that assist others to participate in the Holiday Season, then jointly, our gifts can make a real difference. We do have a chocie and by taking a few minutes to do the right thing we can, at least for one day, reduce the hunger that stalks our communities.

There is really no need for anyone to be hungry, at any time. The problem is not a lack of food. The problem is the lack of political pressure to develop the political will, needed to take the necessary action to end hunger. This Festive Season you can truly share the meaning of the Holiday by giving at least one gift that enables others to join in the Celebration, after all isn't that what it is all about.
