Hot Dog!

Officially, Spring is upon us. Unofficially, the temperatures don't agree. It was minus 30 last Saturday, hardly a sprign day. Fortunately, I've seen the telltale signs that Spring is near are there. I could smell a skunk in my backyard, a few days ago. It must of just woke up, it was a singularly nice day, and decided to take a peek around. The paw prints in the snow were more proof.

Another sure sign that the weather is warming up, is the return of the seagull. Their raucous call, while still scarce, has begun to mingle with the cawing of the crow's and the pigeons' cooing. This is the time of year my thoughts turn to baseball. The local diamonds may be covered in snow but the Boys of Summer are busy down south. I have been following the Toronto Blue Jays since their first season. I may be a glutton for punishment, for a few years now they raise my hopes, dash them, raise them, and dash them again. This year will be different I keep telling myself. We'll see.

Of course, I can't think about baseball without thinking about hot dogs. Now I am a vegetarian, so the legendary hot dogs is not what I'll be eating. I'll be looking for a veggies dog. The down side of the veggie dog, at least thsoe made from soybeans or tofu, is the unfortunate reality, that a product made from soybeans has a very high potential of being made from genetically modified stock and therefore, not something that I want to eat. Once again this is a case for labeling so that I know what I'm buying. It is my right. All the label has to say is this product may contain gmo product, or words to that effect. The I have a choice. The decision to buy or not, to consume becomes mine and no one is trying to fool me. Does anyone know of a source for organic veggie dogs. If you do, let us know.

So I may be foregoing the tradition and not buying either aa hot dog or it's vegetarian equivalent until the ball park starts selling organic veggie dogs. Until next week, happy eating.
