Eating at the Movies.

As I write this I am making plans to celebrate the Spring Equinox, the time of equal day and night, a short bit of balance within the calendar year. Eggs are traditionally associated with the Spring Equinox, as they are with another celebration that is held in close proximity to the equinox, Easter. Aside from the hardboiled eggs of picnics and other large family gathering and the pickled eggs of the draught beer lounges, I don't often think of eggs as a snack food, the topic of the past two weeks, especially one that I would take to a movie.

The movie theatre relies heavily on the revenues from the snack bar. Even today, I find it difficult to enter a theatre without a bag of popcorn, covered in salt and butter, sticky fingers gripping a large, a very large, pop. Now, when I go to the movies, it's no butter or salt and usually we share the popcorn. Have you been in a Famous Players Silver City? They take snacking at the movies to new heighst. Not only is the foyer loud and bright but you can get fries or, if you prefer, tacos. When we went to see X-Men we sat down front with a mega pop and veggie tacos. It was pretty cool.

Potato chips are another favourite. I find it almost impossible to just have one. Potato chips are not a good movie food though, too noisy. On the other hand, pretezels are a fair choice, a little crunchy but not loud. They go quite well with the oversized pop that Silver City sells and you can get a pop refill.

If you want to avoid the fat and salt that so many snacks contain, you can go with some healthy alternative. In the movies, you may want to avoid carrots and celery. They are a bit crunchy and may annoy your close neighbours. Fortunately, there are a wide range of choice from which you can choose and, of course, the movies aren't the only place we love to snack. I feel that a little snacking is a good way to enjoy all the possibilities, just be careful how much and what you eat and, if you are taking in a movie, give some thought to quantity.
