What About Sex? - Page 4© Cynthia Webber (Jausten)
Those of us with fibromyalgia still have sexual feelings, and depending upon our own individual circumstances, we need to feel free to continue to explore these feelings. Self-gratification or masturbation is nothing to be ashamed of, and mutual masturbation may also be important for releasing tension when intercourse is too painful. Denying ourselves sexual desire because we feel that certain behaviors are wrong is not helpful for ourselves physically or emotionally, or how we view ourselves in relation to others.
Acceptance of ourselves just as we are isn't always easy when we are living with a chronic condition, but as human beings we have the right to enjoy life, feel sexual and sensual, and be caressed and held in a loving manner no matter what our current situation in life has presented to us.
