A Walk Through the 12 Steps: Step 10

If we continue to ignore small problems and conflicts with others, not only will our fibromyalgia flare, but the problems will become larger. Blaming others for our chronic condition, or accepting their blame and lack of understanding is not healthy for us. We are only responsible for ourselves and our behavior.

Likewise, worrying about our future and the impact of living with a chronic illness can rob us of much serenity and peace of mind. Facing our fears each day makes it easier to enjoy our days, one day at a time.

Step 10 can become a gentle, warm, and loving way in which we can take care of ourselves. Emotional baggage that is still with us at the end of a day carries over to the next day, but if we take the time to review our day, we will be able to start each day with a new outlook on our lives.
