The Coping with Fibromyalgia Course at Suite U is a comprehensive guide, developed by FMers (the Fibromyaglia Friends' Support Group) for FMers, authored and instructed by Carol Wallace, Ph.D., that provides invaluable information for coping with your illness.

Lesson 1 - provides the basics by explaining what fibro is, the most common symptoms, causes, triggers, and the importance of getting a proper diagnosis.

In Lesson 2 you will learn all about Medical Resources; dealing with doctors, how to find the right doctor for you ( includes a checklist), when to see a specialist, and what kinds of specialists are available.

In the next two lessons, Psychological Coping and Physical Coping, you will find every day coping tips on everything from dealing with fibro-fog, learning acceptance, the importance or raising your self-esteem, managing fatigue and pain, coping with flare-ups, to creative visualization exercises. The Fibromyalgia Friends' Support Group members share their personal experiences, including ways in which they cope with various aspects of living with fibro as well.

Lesson 5 - focuses on Traditional Treatments; most commonly used medications, sleep aids, depression, as well as available treatments for pain. Proactive measures for beating fibro offers positive actions you can take to improve your quality of life.

In Lesson 6 you will learn all about Alternative (non-traditional) Treatments; the 6 categories of alternative methods of treatment most commonly used - biochemical, structural, movement functional, energy therapies, mind-body therapy and environmental approaches, which allows you to fully explore the options available to you.

Lesson 7 - Applying for Disability; Social Security and private medical insurance; includes a disability worksheet, tips on how to make a successful claim, preparing and submitting an application, what to expect, and answers to frequently asked questions. Includes valuable advice and resources.

Lesson 8 - Finding Resources on Fibro: includes print resources as well as resources on the web; how to find the latest information, the importance of keeping ourselves informed and up-to-date. You'll also find helpful sites to bookmark, tips on how to make everyday tasks easier, the importance of focusing on what you CAN do instead of what you cannot.
