Natural Colored Cotton

Here is some brown and green cotton spun up

If you have some extra Christmas money to burn one fun new fiber to spin is Natural Colored Cotton. Often called Foxfibre for is developer, Sally Fox, its cotton that grows is different colors from the regular white. The colors range from tan to green to almost red! Its really quite amazing!

I've also found that handspun cotton is very soft and not at all "string-Like." Natural colored cotten seems even softer than that.

It has to be spun like any other short stapled fiber. Lots of extra twist much like spinning angora rabbit or cashmere. Then to set the twist after spinning, and pre-shrink the cotton, boil for ten minutes and let dry.

Knit up like usual.

The history of colored cotton is very long. Various native peoples grew colored cotton with mostly brown and tan shades for many thouands of years before Sally developed a greater color range.
