Now that the Holidays are fast approaching gift giving has moved into full swing. I make all sorts of quick projects for holiday giving, but slippers are a welcome gift and a little different than hats or mittens. Here's a pattern for super quick crochet slippers. A few embelishments like tow tassels can make them more seasonal. SANTA SLIPPERS Materials:
4 oz. red yarn worsted weight This pattern makes a size six ladies slipper. To adjust to fit a bigger foot, add two stitches to initial chain for every inch longer your foot is. To size for children, decrease two chain stitches in initial chain for every inch shorter the child's foot is. Directions: With double yarn chain 14 stitiches. Turn and dc in every stitch of the chain and then work three stitches in end of chain. Work dc down the other side of foundation chain, thus circling the whole foundation chain. Work three dc in end stitch. Repeat circling around two more times remembering to increase by working three stitches at each end. Check for width. This will fit an average width foot. If your foot is wider work one more complete circle. The slipper sole is done. Break off one strand of the doubled yarn and work the rest of the project in single strand. Work even around the whole sole in dc with the single strand. Do not increase at ends. Pick one end to be the toe of the slipper. Double Crochet 28 stitches to begin toe end. Mark this point with a contrasting yarn scrap, and work back the other direction decreasing every two stitches by crocheting two together. Work to end of the 28 toe stitches. Work back and forth across the toe area decreasing every two stitches until only six stitches across the foot bridge remain. Toe is complete. Single crochet around the edge of the foot opening three full turns around. This should make this snug around the ankle. If you need a tighter fit add a few more turns. Add toe tassels for holiday effect. Happy Present Making! Here are a few more popular patterns from past Holiday columns.
