Red/White/Blue Gifts and Disaster Links

After the horrible crimes committed by the death addicted international terrorists I've had many requests for quick red/white blue gifts -- mostly for kids. They seem to find the patriotic gifts very reassuring in this time of trouble.

Here are some quick projects, and then a list of disaster information links, so that one can feel more empowered by information.

Patriotic Ski Headband

Materials: red worsted yarn blue worsted yarn white worsted yarn

Knit version:

Adult: Cast on 62 stitches in red on circular Number 8 needle (or straight needles and sew work together when finished).

Child: Cast on 62 stitches in red on Number 6 circulr needle (or straight and sew work together when finished).

Knit four rows red, four rows white, four rows blue. Bind off.

Voila! Patriotic head band.

Crochet Version:

Adult:J size hook Child: I size hook

Chain 62 stitches in red slip together. Work even in red for four rows, change to white work even five rows, work five rows blue. Thread yarn through and break off . Work in yarn end.

Patriotic Friendship Bracelet:

Red, white and blue embroidery thread

Braid six strands of each color together. Knot each end. Tie off on child's arm. You can work in plastic star beads as you work if you like.

HELP NYC PROJECTS: This is not an Internet Hoax. Some of our local homeschool group made friendship bracelets for NYC Fire and Police and are sending them as a gesture of Friendship and Solidarity.

I contacted some other people in NYC and they think it might be a nice gesture for to send the bracelets to the kids in city programs too.
