Lesson # 4: Using both sides of the frame loom by Lili Pintea-Reed

You can use both sides of your frame loom for projects. Thus you can produce six foot plus lengths. Depending on what you use for materials your projects can vary from rug strips to be sewn together to make an area rug to fine mohair scarves.

This is a lesson in making the turn over the top of the loom. To learn I recommend you use the heavy rag materials of the last project. Save the mohair and silk for later!!!

First you weave up one side of the loom as in the picture below.

Then flip the loom over. Using the same length of weft (sideways material) from the from the other side, weave as before as close to the top as possible.

Then taking your fingers or a pick up stick push the weft up to the top and over as shown below.

Continue to weave in this manner until the top is rounded and filled in at a density similar to the other side. Then weave down this side.

You will then have filled in both sides of the loom. You can remove the project from the loom just as demonstrated last week.
